crew cab w/limited slip problems

I have a 1997 f250(light duty) w/9.75 limited slip rear differential. I just had it serviced and filled with 75/140 synthetic as noted on axle tag. It growels and chatters like crasy...sooo bad I don't want to drive it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Did they add friction modifier? Was it serviced through Ford? If not, then go ahead and buy some "FORD" friction modifier and throw it in your differential. It will take some time for that crap to have an effect, but it just might help. My 97 was doing it like crazy. I changed out my differential fluid, added modifier (not ford) and no change at all. Went to Ford, bought theirs and dumped it in and it helped some. It still chatters but not as much.

Some thimes you have to watch the aftermarket friction modifer as it come in all kind of different qtys....most common ones I've seen are 4 oz and 8 oz bottles.

You didn't say if the diff growled and chattered BEFORE you serviced it. If it did, then you may have mechanical problems. If it didn't, then a friction modifier (Fords if probably best) in the recommended quantity should fix it.

My truck was fine and then it gradually started the chatter while in a turn from a stop.

Did you have it changed because it was chattering, or did it start to chatter after it was changed?

If the latter, I would certainly suspect it needs friction modifier. But if you add too much, it will lose some of its limited slip ability.
