Wanting to know if someone has had this same problem and if so what did you do to fix it? For the last couple of days my engine has been running real rough has if it was going to stall and then today my check engine light came on. Looked into the manual and it mentions the emissions control, can anyone elaborate on this for me. Thank you.
Hi and welcome to FTE,
what would help, is go to autozone, have them pull the codes[free], write them down and post them, we'll be glad to help.
check for vacum leaks around the pcv valve, might be a dirty maf sensor. its located in the air intake tube after the air filter, clean with carb cleaner. plugs ? did you do a tune up recently? did you use oem /motercraft spark plugs? more expensive but will last 80-100.000 miles. fuel filter?how many miles?

And a quick check on the gas cap being on right. I had this happen with my 4.6L and the dealer told me to loosen off my gas cap - put it back on right - and give it five cold starts to clear the light. It did. Was I ever surprised.
Get the code, no guessing. All codes are listed under tech articles as well,
but the users here zero in on exact cause. Could be a number of things.
PCV, IAC, MAS, EGR Valve and ports, etc. Which ever it is,
the good folks here will help you through it. Also, do a search
to find every thread that mentions the problem topic once you get a code.
Works for me on maintenance, trouble shooting, whathaveya!
