The 4R100 with your V10 requires MERCON, not MERCON V, and not a fluid that has both MERCON and MERCON V ratings.
That's what it says in your owner's manual. I think they are right.

What about Mobil 1 synthetic ATF? Has anyone tried it on the V-10 4R100?

just use regular Mercon, the bottle might read Mercon/Dextron, Mercon V is no good , i beleive it is synthetic. Its noted in the owner manual that Mercon and Mercon V are not interchangeable. Also on the Tranny Dipstick it should read what the truck take's ,mine is an 02 and say;s Mercon.

Look at your tranny dipstick... It should say which type.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in my 4R100 behind a V10. Works great.
I think it is the best fluid choice for a 4R100 transmission. It has the MERCON rating, but not MERCON V. That's exactly what the 4R100 needs.

Is it safe to switch from Mercon to the synthetic ATF?
My tranny has "Mercon".
