Dana problems

Whats up
I have a 78 f-250 and I was driving the other day and the rear end went out. I don't know anything about rear ends so I am having a little bit of trouble. I don't know the correct terms but I will tell you what happened so bare with me. The pin that goes in the spider gears came out and hit the pinion gear and stripped it. I am trying to locate a new(used) rear end but I'm confused about what I have. At 55 I am tacking around 2700 rpms. I have always thought that it semmed pretty low geared but I pulled the cover off and it said 3:55 on the ring gear. I tried gong to dana and looking up the part # but I am not that good on a computer. The # is 9 11 76 DANA 30360 A3D6IX 41-10. Does 3:55 sound right for those rpms. Also, what would be the easiest and cheapest way to fix it.

If it's a 2wd just hit the wrecking yard for d60's if 4wd drive then find one with matching gears. they are found cheap. you can even bolt the sterlings from the mid 80's up F250 and 350's fairly easy. if what i got worked out right it has 4.11's in it. not sure what your looking to spend, but alot of the ring and pinion places offer package deals on gear sets w/LS or locker.

If it says 3.55 on the ring gear, then that should be what you have. RPM's are going to be different depending on tire size and trans gearing (overdrive or no OD). Also, most early auto trans have torque converter slip, which adds a couple hundred engine rpms to the equation. If still in doubt, you can count the # of teeth on the ring gear and divide by the # of teeth on the pinion to find your ratio. Example: 46/13 = 3.54

I would say the numbers 41-10 on the end of the part number indicate you have 4.10 gears. Count the teeth to be sure

41 on the ring gear 10 on the pinion= 4.10. Dana 60 never came in 3.55

Sounds like 4.10s to me too. If you want something a little more efficient, e-mail me. I have a set of 3.73s that I am willing to get rid of cheap. I would have e-mailed you, but didn't see a thing to click on to e-mail you. Their number would be 41-11. Ted
