differential cover

differential cover
i have a 79 250 4x4 and i put a chrome dif cover on the back but it doesn't want to seal up . keeps leaking any ideas on how to make it stop??

Did you use a gasket, silicone sealant, or both?

At work, we just use silicone sealant around the cover and they never leak.

Be sure to clean both the axle housing surface and the cover surface real good and hammer flat any raised areas of the sheetmetal around the mounting holes before you put the cover back on. When tightening it down, tighten the bolts in steps and go in criss-cross pattern similar to tightening down a wheel.
