I"m so excited!!!!!! I cant wait for tommorow, heres the deal. We were driving by the local ford dealership and pulled in. We saw an old 89 ranger sittin there, in good condition, paint was excelent, so was the body, no dings or anything. there was a little bit of rust comin thorough the wheel well on the right hand side, i didnt even notice it untill i looked closely. Its got the 2.9 with a 4x4 manual tranny in it. power nothing, which is ok, i dont really need power anything anyway. Its the long bed regular cab. The best part is, tommorow i'm going down there with my dad to test drive it. My mom is cool with it tooo, which is a total change of attitued since about 1 month ago. The odometer says 73xxx, this might be 73k or 173k, i'm thinkin it might be the 73 k, cause its in soo good of condition, even the inside of the bed is in totally great condition, theres not even a scratch in it. It looks like it was owned by an older person, since its in really good condition, the interior seemed flawless, from the outside that is. My dad is going to run the plates tommorow so we know for sure. So what do yo guys think? what should i expect to ask for this truck. kbb says the trade in value is about 1250 or so.
A truck like that I'd gladly pay $3000 for. But I tend to pay more for things I like then I should. If the plates and the VIN come up clean, then I'd definitely go for it. Then again, I have to ask anyway...what is wrong with the truck you have?

I dont really own it. Its somthing my parents bought. The plan was its going to be somthing for me and my bro to drive, but since i got my licence first, and he doesnt even have his permit yet, i kinda started to really like the truck and drive it all the time, and started calling it mine, since i'm the only one who usually drives it. Now that there is this one i just found, it looks in good condition, and if the price is right, tommorow i'll be the new proud owner of a 89 ranger. See, the only cars my parents have are the minivan and the ranger. My dad also drives an unmarked cop car to work and back. This works out good until my mom wants to go somewhere, and i want to go to the mall or somthing, but my dad doesnt want to be left without a vehicle to drive. Now that my dad is going to retire soon, thus loosing the unmarked, we will only have 2 vehicles to drive, and then my brother is going to get his licence. so we will have 2 vechicles and 4 drivers, which doesnt work out very good. So if i can get this thing for like 2k, i'll be happy. Plus its a stick, and i've always wanted a stick! The truck at my work is a stick, i love driving that thing!
It's always good to own your own truck. Parents can never take it away, you don't have to share it, you can feel more proud because it is /yours/. If the price is right, definitely go for it. You'll love it and it will help out your family too. "Have a stout Ford Ranger, always a good decision."
Not to put a downer on it but remember the 2.9L crack heads, a pressure test of the cooling system and a compression test should indicate if there's a problem.
Wow, thats all i can say. Inside was clean, under the hood was like looking under the hood of a 03, was all new stuff, i think it was smashed up. valve covers looked new, all the resovoirs looked new, On the top of the intake it had "Fuel injected 2.9" engraved on it. is this a new fuel injected 2.9? are the origional engines carbourated? Ran really good though. There is rust startin to show through the wheel wells. ok, now heres the biggest wow, guess how much they were asking for it, ......................4,995$!!!!!!!!!!! thats how much my parents paid for the truck we have now!!!!!!! I can guarentee they wont sell it for that much, plus they got another 2wd 89 in today, and i'm thinkin they're going to want to start getting rid of them soon.
I personally think the dealers are crazy asking 4995 for a truck thats 15 years old, and has been in an accident, and has rust creeping up from the rear wheel wells. Especially we paid that price for the 94 4x4 4.0l extended cab, which is 5 years newer. How much do you think i can expect them to go down on this truck? It definantly needs new window molding on the drivers side, cause it makes a whistling sound that drives me crazy! Also the mirrors look like garbage, it almost looks like they're falling off. I think i'd pay 2000 for the truck, maybe up to 2500, It runs nice, starts right up. But i dont want to pay 4995 for somthing that is going to be total rust in a matter of like 1-2 years
they are going to start high so they can get as much for it as possible. I doubt that they expect to get that much. Just state what your willing to pay and stand firm. They will come down because they are itching to get rid of it since they have to pay taxes on it.
I have an '86 ranger (my first vehicle) and If I were looking for a truck I probably wouldnt buy the '89 cuz the price is pretty high... I might pay $2000-$2500 tops...I bought mine a couple of months ago and am still fixing it.... Its an Auto, 4x4 supercab with the 2.9 EFI... Nothing but trouble but I still love it... Hole in the floor and everything... Good luck on your decision.

Yeah, just go in there and test drive it and tell em how much you want it, but tell em there's no way your going to pay $4999 for a truck thats 15 years old. They will most definatly come down in price. Probably not down to $2000, but probably to at least $3000 or so, maybe lower. When I bought my 98 ranger in early 2001, their original asking price was like $14,500. I ended up getting it for like $10,500. So they dropped it by like a 1/3. Just keep going back everyday, and tell them you want a lower price. Eventually they will probably get it down to something reasonable, since they probably only paid 1500-2000 for it, and they just want to get rid of it. But it sounds like a nice truck though.
well, the trade in value according to kelly blue book is like 1,145. This truck seems to run really good, starts right up, nice and quiet. Runs down the road nice and smooth. I'm sure, once its there for a while they will go down in price. My dad is going to call a salesmen he knows on monday who was sick today(friday). Hopefully All will go well and i'll have the truck!
