V-10 Aftermarket Intake??

Still looking for more power; does anyone make a replacement air intake tube yet to replace the corrugated factory stuff and airbox? I know a lot of companies make them for nearly every other truck, including the 5.4, but have seen nothing for the V-10. Thanks again for the help!

V-10 Aftermarket Intake??

Toby,

I assume you have made other modifications, what are they?

In my research the key areas of the intake area is the Mass AirFlow Sensor and the filter and Inlet "snorkel". My contacts said the Throttle body wasn't the restriction.

I've ordered the Banks Power Pack and a Replacement 80mm Mass AirFlow Sensor from Granatelli Motorsports.

The Banks unit (Headers & 3.5" single pipe) allows the exhaust to flow with less restriction and provides the instructions and materials to open up the "snorkel" to allow more air to get to their high flow filter.

My completed system (including a SuperChip) will be run on a Chassie Dyno on April 29, 2000. My goal is to be 310 HP and 425 ft.lbs. Torque at the rear wheels. (I'd love to be at 360 & 440)

V-10 Aftermarket Intake??

So far, all I have really done is install the Tuff Country 2-1/2" Leveling kit and 285-75-16 BFG A/T ko's. I noticed a drastic difference in power and driveability with the new tires (stockers were only 245-75-16's), as well as a mileage drop. I am very well aware of why, and fully intend to add the Pro-Comp 4" Stage II system with 35's when these treads wear out. So, until then (when I also swap R & P) I just want to help compensate a bit. I have not seen anything on replacement MAF's for this truck yet either; what mag are you getting this from? Please let me know so I can either subscribe or purchase. Thanks again and good luck with the Banks!

I'm curious about what you noticed regarding power and driveability. Did the tire diameter cause enough change in the overall gear ratio to hurt acceleration or towing? What axle ratio do you have and is your truck manual or automatic?

Yeah, I could not believe the difference. The truck is an automatic with 3.73's; I have had a couple of other Fords with 460's, and I slapped 33's on them with no noticable difference at all. I am sorely dissappointed with this, thus my quest for "cheap" power upgrades until gears come my way.

Did you get your speedo recalabrated?? That might help the computer understand what is going on better. I bet the $335 the 4.30LS gears cost seem like a bargain now, especially if you paid $285 for LS 3.73's. You could go the Borla header route($550 if you shop around) and cat-back($350-$450) and K&N ($45) That should give you 45HP or so.

Nope, did not get the speedo done. Never really thought about it, but I guess now EVERYTHING is tied together somehow, so this may be part of the problem... However, I am sure I'm not the only guy out there who has larger tires with the 3.73's. Or maybe I am??? You be the 4.30's are a bargain, but I got my truck off the lot for a steal on year end closeout's. Like I said, re-gearing is definetly in the future. But for now, do you know if there is an acutal speedo gear (like there used to be), or is it a wheel sensor? I know there is a bundle of wires going to each wheel, but I thought it was just for the ABS??

Well, wawii, you'll get it! That's the setup I have had in my F250 SD v-10 for almost a year (well, at least the Superchip and the Banks Powerpack), and while I don't have any dyno data on the truck, just let me say that it performs MUCH better than stock.

My Paxton Novi 2K supercharger is on order from summitracing.com ($3935.39), and will be here in mid-April. Will let you know the outcome.

Tom

On the newer trucks, the calibration for the speedometer is in the onboard computer. You will need to go to your local Ford dealer to get them to recalibrate the computer for your tires or you can purchase a computer programer from Hypertech, http://www.hypertech-inc.com/.

V-10 Aftermarket Intake??

Tom,

Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't get the Granatelli 75mm (sold as an 80mm) MAF to bolt up properly on the 2000. It also looked like Ford already increased the stock unit to 75mm.

The Banks kit showed up on Friday and I have some small shipping damage, so I don't know if I will get it installed next weekend or not.

I'm tentatively scheduled for another Dyno run on Tuesday with the speed limiter removed SuperChip installed so that I can compare the best pre- and post-difference that the Banks provides.

I'm not looking forward to the price of 92+ octane fuel, but I am sure looking forward to the performance.

I'm also trying to get my buddy with an almost identical SD (we have the same cab, tranny and rear end) with the PSD to make a 1/4 mile to see the difference in the trucks.

Thanks,
Will
