I plan on towing a small 2-horse trailer with my 2002 4x4 XLT Off-Road Ranger. I'd only be towing one horse, but have question about what I should be driving in. The manual says that when going up/down hills or driving with a "heavy" load to drive w/the overdrive off . . . so should I be driving w/the overdrive off the entire time I'm towing the trailer?
Thanks for all replies!!
Generally, you should tow without using Overdrive. However, if you run into long stretches of road where you can maintain cruising speed and your tranny won't have to shift much, then you can use Overdrive.
Have ypou checked your tow rating????? Idont know much about the rangers but the tralier you talking about will pobably end being 3500lb depending how much your horse weights. seems alittle heavy for a ranger but if your not towing cross country you shold be fine, No OD I would guess at all wiht the ranger, If you were pullinfg the same tralier with a 250 it would be different. Welome to the sight It's nice to see more horse folks here. I came here with simalre questions, Every one was very helpful, hope they are for you, J.
And I should be fine with the one horse (he's a little Arab) and the little trailer I have according to the manual and I also asked "Mr. Truck" on horsetrailerworld.com. I actually have TWO horses, but if I tow both, I'm borrowing my friend's truck! Of course, the next purchase is "new" upgraded truck . . .
Thanks for your response! What do you have - horse-wise, truck-wise & trailer-wise?????
