I just got rear ended in my 2004 Mountaineer (truck is only 4 weeks old). I expected to see major damage. like a "U" in the back bumper and tailgate. The car that hit me deployed both air bags. The person was playing with their sock instead of driving defensively. To my suprise I only had plastic damage on the bumper. The guy riding with me is a parametic and he could not believe the minimum amount of damage for the force of the impact. What a great and safe truck.
Same thing happened to me in 2001 sport trac, some idiot was talking on his cellphone and rear ended me at a stop light, he was driving a mitsubishi 3000 and there was only red paint on my rear vinyl covered bumper!!!
the front end of the 3000 was almost laying on the street!!
took it to the car wash, wiped off the paint and the was no indication that I had ever been hit.
I even took it to a body shop for a underbody check up just in case something underneath got bent, but they found no damage.
Its nice to hear these kinds of stories. Last month in my Ranger I was rear ended at a stoplight by a some small Japenese car, bent hood, radiator punctured by something, grill smashed. The Ranger, not a scratch..
