Replaced a 460 engine in our 85 F350 which had points (know real good idea what year it is) with a 460 we were told was a 78 (which is questionable, in replacing some things we've been told its a 75) with electronic ignition. Which is best points or electronics? Were told electronic for gas and power but if your far from home gum wrappers will get you there (avid Doublemint chewers).
The points are eazy to keep in the glove box if you need them. realitive eazy to change and are cheep. Electronic is more reliable but more expencive to replace no regular maintance unlike points
I'd go with the Duraspark 2. a dizzy is cheap, and there are hardly any maintance, and it runs great. My dad always said with points, you'd have to change them every 10k miles or so. A DSII module costs about $20 new, and you can probably get a used dizzy & module for $40 or less at a salvage yard.
I've never had a DSII module go out.. but keep a spare. it probably takes less time to swap the DSII module than it takes to change points (never had them, but it take like 10 minutes to change the DSII modules).
if your re wiring from scratch i would go with the points in a heart beet but the ds11 is a lot easyer to work on the only thing i ever had to replace was the cap roter wires and modgule (brain box if i remember they are bout 30-40 bucks depending on where you go idontnozone(autozone) or napa and points (for a 302) distributor is bout 40 bucks mabee a bit more for bigger motor
