This is not something new with the '04 F150, but the F150 is the first vehicle I own that has this feature:
I've seen several posts where people recommend disconnecting the battery in order to clear the memory.
What is the real purpose / advantage in the computer remembering the driving habits of the operator for the last 500 miles, and what information is it saving?
I think people were suggesting to disconnect the battery because the computer had thrown a code. I've seen that a lot in the threads about "limp home mode". When you disconnect the battery for a few minutes, it generally clears the code and resets the computer. After doing that, a person can generally make it home without further problems, as long as there really is nothing wrong.
As far as I know, someone correct me if I'm wrong, the computer isn't used for remembering the driving habits of an operator.
When you take the battery cable off to clear the memory, it's usally in conjunction with changing parts on the moter, i.e... intake, exhaust, etc. By doing so you wipe out the memory so the computer will learn timing, fuel mixture, etc..... all over again.
