F5 hood

Hey,
Any idea on what a nice hood (just some surface rust) is worth?
It has nice chrome modings on the hood too that have F 5 on them as well. I just aquired one and don't really know much about these older models.
Thanks,
Jimmy

well, after closer inspection, it does have a dent or two on the top of it. I guess I will take it to the scrapyard. Thanks anyway.

Please, don't scrap the hood if it is of any use. Offer it here for free or, I hate to suggest it, eBay it. I hate seeing any parts from these old trucks going to the scrapper if someone can use it. Once their gone their gone.

I'm with Bob, don't even think of scrapping that hood. Even if all you do is give it away. I know I'm trying to make due with a hood that had the nose crunched in, a couple rust holes near the rear, and a gash where it looks like the fan tried to escape... and I concider that a good starting point. This old sheet metal, is getting very hard to find, and a couple of minor dents is nothing a few minutes with a hammer and dolly can't fix. So please hold onto it.

Well, it was in worse shape that I thought. I gave it back to the guy that I got it from. I did keep the very nice side chrome pieces that are about 2ft long and say F5 on them.
I am assuming that this was a 1 ton truck? I have heard of the F1, but not a F5 (except for a very nasty tornado )
I may post them on the classifieds for sale.
Jimmy

They look like 51 pieces from looking at the galleries. I'll post the pic's as soon as I can take some.

Yeah, from what you have mentioned, my guess is that it is a 51 as well. The only other year that had a single stainless bar on the side was a 52, but the model (F-!, 2, 3, etc) was stamped on a separate stainless disc. An F-5 I believe is actually a one and a half ton, similar to the F-550's (I may be wrong on the designation) I know mine is a 52 F-3, which is a HD 3/4ton... or a one ton depending on who you talk to.

I have added pictures of the chrome to my gallery. I am pretty sure that they are 51's but could someone verify please? Thanks, Jimmy

LXman -

I was just nosing through your gallery, and noticed your bed is the same as the '57 - '60. Is that the original bed, and if so, how long did ford use that bed for its trucks?

61-63 Ford trucks had a unibody box and cab. The trucks that were ordered as a separtated cab and box used a 57-60 box. In 64 they stopped the unibody and used a new bed that matched the cab.

Yep, it's original. Like 51 said, most 61-63's were unibody trucks. The cab and bed were connected to look like one piece. I guess mine is kinda rare because most 63's that I have looked at in the galleries are unibodies. I had a heck of a time finding a tailgate. I finally found one on Ebay. I am done with the engine swap now (292 to a 84' 351W/C6). It also gas the original 9" that is 28 spline. I added a 3.50LS center section to it. I was able to use the stock 3-speed column shifter on the automatic so it still looks original in the cab. The original radio still works too.
It should be off to get some minor bodywork done in the next month or so to get it prepped for paint.
