CB antennae mount
I currently use a magnet-mount on the roof, with a short "cell-phone look" antennae, and the wire going in thru the back sliding window. A disadvantage is with the mag-mounts, you might get some paint damage or rather an "unfaded" spot under the mount, if you leave it on all the time. Might not be an issue to you because the roof is so high (on the 4x4) that it would be practically unnoticable. I don't use mine enough to where that would be a problem. There's a highth/clearence issue to consider too, with a roof mount.
Another (and perhaps the "best") option is a hood mounting bracket. It's kinda "L" shaped, and screws into the sheet-metal under the crack between the hood and fender. With the antennae off, you'd still see an unobtrusive little mounting flange poking out. Yes, you have to drill holes, but even if you remove it later, they're hidden under the hood. But, that was enough to make me not want to do it; you might feel differently though. I don't know how you'd best run the wire; perhaps in thru the door jamb (like you would with a mirror-mount), or under the hood & thru the firewall?
Good luck, whichever way you go.

1. It puts the antenna at the highest point on the vehicle, making for a clear and equally dispersed signal in all directions.
2. By punching a hole in the roof, I get a good ground for the antenna to react against.
If you do this, you need to make sure that the antenna that you install is removable, just in case you want to park it in a garage. The other option is the "L" bracket that attaches on the inner side of the hood. I have used one of those in the past and it worked sufficiently well. It will give you a good ground to work against, but the signal is blocked by the cab of the vehicle.
Good luck,
