I've owned a 1962 f-100 223 since 1972. As I get older, power steering looks better. Any ideas out there on how to convert? I've looked at a lot of these trucks in the wrecking yards and never came across one with power steering.
I'm in the same boat as you with my 64. Some of the forum members have installed the Toyota 4x4 power steering box and had good luck. I 'm taking a welding class at a adult ed school and have the availibility of metal shears, rollers, mig ,tig and a lath, so would prefer to install a ford box. I'm looking into the early 70ish full size ford passenger car as a donner.
I've seen some 64's with ps, you have coil springs and steering gear in the frame, I think, I have leaf springs and steering sector coming through the frame so the convert is a big job. maybe ford didn't offer it in 62 although I had a 55 fairlane with it.
64 is the last year of the solid front axle and leaf springs in the F-100 series. The F-250 and 350 stayed with the same solid front axle and leafs at least thru 65 and 66. The power steering your referring to has a hydraulic ram and a control valve set up semilar to my wifes 66 mustang. This is a pricy unit and does not give you much feed back to the steering wheel. I was going to make the rounds at the junk yards in my area soon to see what I cound find.
