My 2000 F-250 is on order and should arrive soon as it has been picked up by the computer, etc. I asked the salesman for the VIN and he fax'd it to me. Two things bother me.
The fourth digit in the VIN should be the brake/GVRW code- in my case "1" for 8800lbs. He gave me a 4th digit of "N" which means nothing.
The eighth digit in the VIN should be the engine code- in my case "L" for 5.4L. He gave me an 8th digit of "S" which breaks to the V-10.
I called him on it and this is his response verbatim:
"hey buddy did I screw up again iam just having a bad day if this doesn't make sense let me know because I was trying to look it up with out concepts so if it doesn't please let me know I know when I looked at the order that has you name one it is a 5.4 extra cab 4x4, but like I said e mail me back and let me know thanks"
OK, I know he's in sales and I can cut him slack on grammer and even punctuation but can anyone understand this? This was his response after I went through the VIN number by number and highlighting the two heartburn areas.
Regards
Bob

Well, I don't know if this will help but when you say the 4th digit is supposed to be a 1, then should you not just count the digits, and not the letters? Digits mean numerical values, and as far as I know, letters don't have numerical values, therefore they are not digits. Maybe check to see what the 4th DIGIT in the VIN number is. Just a suggestion, I don't really know too much about VIN #'s myself. Good luck.
