I can't really make heads of tales as to what the differences are between the different 40 series flowmaster mufflers. i want something that rumbles, it doesnt really matter if it is noticible in the cab, i can deal with that. i ran swampers for a few years, so noise isnt an issue. when i stand on it, i want it to sound good, deep and mellow, i guess you could say... not like someone farting in a folgers coffee can. Here are the 3 that i cant decide what the diffs. are:
the "original" 40 series
40 series delta flow
and super 40
I need to replace my muffler, but right now with all my other truck issues, i cant do the whole exhaust, but want to get the right muffler at least. I won't be doing headers, maybe a high flow cat at one point, and most likely will be doing some type of intake system, wether a cervinis ram air hood, or a k&n fipk... something along those lines. I'm looking for some first had knowledge here, not just someone going to the flowmaster web site and copying the text in here for me to re-read i've been there, and still cant quite tell whats what.
The 40 series will be be the loudest on the inside and the outside. The 40 series deltaflow will be a little bit deeper than the 40 series original and both quieter on the inside and outside than the original 40. Dunno about the Super 40, never heard one. I imagine its much quieter than both of the other 40 series due to its larger case size. If you are just going to do a single muffler on stock pipes, with stock cats then I'd go with the 40 series Original... will have the most volume but shouldn't be that loud at all (the stock cats do quite a bit of muffling themselves).
To tell you the truth I'm only going off what I think I remember, but I'm pretty sure the delta flows better than original. TO check it out you'll have to go to the flowmastermuffler.com website.
Developed from Flowmaster's line of Delta Force® race mufflers, Delta Flow® technology provides superior scavenging of exhaust gases even over a comparable (standard) Flowmaster muffler. This results in increased horsepower, torque and fuel economy, along with reductions in exterior sound levels and interior resonance. These three deflectors function properly only when they've been precisely placed and welded to exact specifications. Together they provide superior reductions in exterior sound levels as well as resonance transmitted through the exhaust system and into the vehicle.
All could find find about the super 40 was this.
