Has anyone noticed this? yogurt has gone from 8 oz. to 6 oz., some OJ has gone from 64 oz. to 59 oz., half gallon ice cream is now 59 oz., dish soap, powder soap, etc. I even see the mini 6-pack soda cans cost the same as 12 oz. cans. I'm sure our canadian friends have seen a similar corporate greed.
I think with some products, packaging makes up a substantial part of the cost. Also, these days with everyone watching sugar and carbohydrates, I think the food manufacturers are trying to lower these substances by shrinking down the portion size. If you can't make them more low calorie, just don't eat as much!
When dealing with quantities on the scale of Nationwide distribution skimming a little or decreasing quantity size by 1/2 an ounce can save a company alot of money. For example One of the larger airlines saved $40,000 one year by not including an olive with the alcoholic drinks. Just think how much a company like Breyers can save by decreasing a half gallon size by an ounce!
