AC/Vent question

All the vehicles I have ever owned had the vent position that only takes in outside air through the vents. This 04 SD seems to have the air conditioner working when I have control positioned to vent or floor/vent or just floor. It doesn't seem quite as cold as AC by itself but it sure seems the AC is helping the outside air quite a bit. Anyone else noticed this on his or her truck? I guess I need to get up under it and see if the compressor is running in these positions.

On the manual system there are 3 positions where the A/C doesn't operate, panel (one click left from off), off and floor. Otherwise it is on.

Hummmm, I will have to check mine tonight. Mine blows colder than outside air in vent (one click left of off), vent and floor, and floor only. Seems like something is amiss. Thanks

The best way to check is to open the hood, crank the engine, and watch the compressor as someone else turns the switch to different locations.

Typically - it's the way CmprSpecial put it.

I got what I posted eariler from the Ford factory service manual for '04. If the compresser runs in the panel, floor, or off position, something it wrong.

looks like the wiring diagram is drawn incorrectly, the workshop
manual states as CmprSpecial stated above.

Well, I didn't get a chance to look at the compressor last night. I had some other chores to do. I will try again tonight to take a look.

Where did you guys get the workshop manuals you mentioned? Thanks

I have a relative at Ford, so I can get what ever I want.

Those without connection can go to Ford, or try Helm, the publisher of manuals for Ford .

Well I finally got a chance to check the compressor out. I got under the truck and had my SO cycle the thing from AC to vent and the compressor turns on with AC and off with vent. Now I know this wasn't happening before as the out air was 84 but the vent air was easily in the 70's. I suspect it is working properly now for some unknown reason.

This is a guess (see my sig) but I think it is the way the outside air gets into the vent. I think it gets preheated before it makes it into the cab. My 96 did the same thing........
