max rpm

I have an 84 F150 with the 300 straight 6. It does not have a tach, and I was wondering if anyone knows what the "red line" is? curiosity gets the best of me

the 300 turns about 5500 max and after 4000 you are really winding it up.

i have a digital tach on mine with a tattle tale, in first gear with the petal to the floor the max I've ever hit was 4500, it even stopped at 4200 once. 4500 is the highest I can get it to go and I've tried a few times.

No reason to go past 4000, the powerband cuts off at 3800. I think the redline is offically at 5500.

I never take mine over 4500, no more powa! I may have hit 5k once or twice cutting a donut or two, but I don't think I'll be letting it get that high again.
Edit: hmm, seems my signature has disappeared

Specs:
Edelbrock 500cfm car
Clifford Intake and Header
Blueracer Cam
Slightly ported head
Wide ratio c6

Yeah, signatures now seem to be limited to year and model of truck.

I've hit 5200 in mine. Wouldn't want to do it a lot though, sounded great screaming though. I'd normally shift at 4500 when running it hard.

Horsepower peak is in the mid 3000s. Therefore, I see no reason to exceed 4000 rpm on a stock 300 I6.

why do you use 10W40 versus 10W30 in the 300 when your in usual colder climates?
