I noticed a lot of members here have Irish backgrounds and was wondering if I could get some info on the song Roisin Dubh. For awhile now I have been looking for this song done in the traditional style, but can only find one by the Dubliners that’s close. Even though I like their rendition, it lacks the Irish seasoning (IMHO) and it has no lyrics. I would like to buy the song, but would need to listen to a sample first. Anyone know where I can find this? Also I do not like the modern versions of the song, which are many, and some have corrupted it. So if anyone knows of a newer rendition with all the traditional music, it would surely be appreciated.
I think it was originally "small (or little) black rose". It was an old poem later used as a code by the Irish during their fight for freedom.
It is a very beautiful musical piece if done correctly. Cathie Ryan does a fair job with it, but not as traditional as I would like it. Of course Thin Lizzy has FUBARed it!

That would be great. I was just wondering why I haven't heard it in any of the Irish-based movies before. Seems to me it would be one the top of the list. Or it might just strike a cord in me personally.
