I have a Stealth intake on my truck and a Demon 850 carb. The butterflies on the carb are hitting the seperator on the top of the intake. What did you guys do to solve this problem if you had it. I was thinking of grinding it down a little. Help.
I really doubt it is hitting the butterflies. On mine a piece of the fast idle linkage was hitting the passenger side of the intake. I just took a felt marker and outlined the problem and taped up the intake and ground it out with a die grinder. Look under the carb on the passenger side while working the throttle and you will see the problem. I wouldn't put a spacer on a Stealth.

Thats a pretty broad statement isn't it? It all depends on the tune of the engine. On a 460 bone stock other than the intake, maybe not. On the other hand, I know no less than six guys with 460s and stealths who gained hp on the dyno through tuning with spacers and adding them in the range of 1" to 2". I myself use a 2" HVH which conventional wisdom should have hurt my bottem end, but actually helped the entire spectrum. Its all about the combo...
1" spacer on the Stealth is a for sure good thing. Its been covered and proven a thousand times......use the search function on the 385 forum http://www.network54.com/Forum/85220
With this kind of endorsements I will definetely have to give it a try. I have both a 1 and a 2" spacers laying around from my race car. Just looking at the huge size of the ports on a Stealth I figured a spacer would kill the bottom end throttle response and defeat the dual plane effect.
Yea, its funny Gun, you look at the sewer pipe sized ports on the stealth and ya figure a spacer would do nothing but slug up the velocity. Yet, for some strange reason most of us have found gains with spacers with the Stealth. Go figure. Play around and let us know how it worked for you, too.
Dont quote me on this...but I think I saw it explained once like this....The runner voluum to plenum volume is not quite on the money, but if you add the 1" spacer and increase the plenum voluum you hit thweet spot. I know Gary Blair has dyno proven this, and a few others have as well, I just dont recall the names and threads. Yes, that forum is hands down the very best group to ask hardcore 385 questions to, many of the guys that troll and respond there are professional engine biulders, or very serious racers/hobbiests. One day I hope to be the later and have gathered enough to actually share wit with those guys. For now I troll there :]
well, I guess I will be ok. I put a 1" spacer in to solve the problem. I guess that was a good thing. The truck has not been ran yet. We will see what happens.
