I'mgoing to restart a 1995 ranger 6cyl. engine. tranny died at 74k $1500 later it lasted 12,951 mi,just past warranty. Need to restart engine to move inside after several years.what's the best way to lube upper engine parts to prevent scoring &cam wear.
Here's my thoughts on it. I'd pull all the plugs and with an oil can squirt in 2-3 shots of your favorite motor oil. Crank the engine a bit with the plugs out. Then put another shot of oil in each hole and reinstall the plugs. Crank it a bit (like 3-5 seconds) with the ignition disabled and let it sit for the night. Next day, check the oil and coolant levels and fire it up. Move the rig as needed but follow up with an oil/filter change before you really go out and hit the road. You really don't have to worry about cam wear; the cam will be lubed by oil being slung up there as soon as the engine starts and what oil is left there now will be enough for the first few seconds of run time. You do run the risk of all of this oil fouling the plugs so be prepared to replace them.
