White Smoke!!!!!!!#$%&##!

This is a weird one guys, please give me some advice.
Here's the symptoms:

Shut off the engine after warmed up, wait over 10 minutes and restart: White smoke cloud out the exhaust (Reeks of fuel)

Shut off the engine after warmed up, wait over 60 minutes and restart: No smoking whatsoever, no fuel smell

Shut off the engine after warmed up, wait less than 5 minutes and restart: No smoking whatsoever, no fuel smell

Start the engine cold: No smoking whatsoever, no fuel smell

Engine burns no oil.

What's the deal? Only smokes between 10 min and 1 hour at restart

if its white its antifreeze maybe a gasket is gone and when it warms up it expands or something to that effect

yea, I thought about that- 2 things though:

1) why does it smell of fuel?
2) if it was antifreeze, wouldn't I see smoke all the time/or some other time?

Thanks for you input, this thing is driving me crazy. I don't think it did this with the old 1bbl carb. Also maybe it has something to do with the elec. choke, or vaccuum or something.

Do a compression check, sounds like your head gasket died.

How warm is warmed up?

My GMC will put out what appears to be white smoke if I only run it for about 10 minute to 20 minutes at a time. What it actually is is steam from moisture built up in the exaust system as my GMC doesn't get run more than 4000 miles a year.

The solution I was told was either drill a couple of drain holes in the muffler or run it for about an hour once a week.

The unburned fuel might be the fuel smell.

Another note, Watch your antifreeze levels close, just incase

oh, also- if it is the gasket, what is the best replacement for it. I will try a compression check- what should the accceptable psi be on the cyls? Within 10% of each other?

hey guys, what about fuel pressure - seems like if it sits over an hour the pressure bleeds off and won't smoke. But if I come out ½ after shutting the engine off the pressure is still there and its flooding. Just a stab in the dark

mmm could be that, but I wouldn't think that it would take that long to bleed off pressure, and if a regulator is shot, it'll probably do it constantly, because they really don't warm up too much. It could be that its sticking perhaps... I would check fuel pressure.

Sounds to me like a head gasket. Double check to make sure its fuel and not antifreeze

You have to do a compression check and dipstick check. Depending on where gasket is leaking, you may get water in cylinder and/or in oil.
Unfortunately you may even have a cracked head or block.
