Windshield Washer Not Working
I have a 1996 Ford Ranger XLT pickup. It is a regular cab with the 2.3 Liter four cylinder engine and is two wheel drive with a five speed manual transmission. A couple of weeks ago my windshield washer quit working. I checked the fuse thinking maybe it was burned out but it's fine. I even put a new fuse in just to make sure and it's still not working. I'm not sure if it's the washer motor or purhaps the switch itself which is located on the blinker arm. If anyone has any suggestions on troubleshooting it please let me know. Thanks very much, Greg

89 Ranger, my Dad was original owner, about 1995 windshield washers quit working, dealership replaced multifunction switch on steering column and it still would not work. They then replaced the washer pump which fixed the problem. Quit working again this month and replaced the pump which fixed the problem for about $15.00. On mine you had to remove the washer-coolant resevoir but would rather tangle with that the the steering column, less expense as well. Can you hear the pump or does it seem dead? You might disconnect the connector and test for current to the pump. One other tip, after replacing it would quit working about every third use. The new pump was so much stronger it was blowing the hose off and leaking out, so I added a clamp, maybe the 15 year old hose was just loose.
