1987 F150 4X4 chip reburn???
I am getting ready to do a rebuild on a 300 six in my son's '87 F150 4X4. It is currently a 4sp OD manual transmission. We have decided to do a pretty straightforward rebuild, but would like to add a cam (leaning towards the crane H-272-2) and we will bump the compression just a little to around 9.0-9.5. The intake and exhaust runners in the head will be polished and gasket matched to the manifolds. I am considering opening the valves up to 1.94s and 1.60s, but I'm still open to suggestions on that one. After much reading about exhaust on these engines I have decided to use the stock FI exhaust manifolds, but again both intake and exhaust manifolds will be polished inside (just smoothed out to remove casting imperfections). These will feed dual 2" or 2-1/4" exhaust pipes into turbo mufflers or glasspacks. I am also considering going to the #19 injectors that I keep reading about. I assume I need a chip reburn (do I?), but who does it, how much does it cost, and how long does it take to get it done? Also, in the future we will be changing gears from 3.08 to 3.73 or 4.10, and possibly the transmission to a 5 speed. Will I have to reburn the chip again when I do that? Would I be better to just switch to a carb? Thanks for any input. Mark.

I let posts go the entire weekend in the chip section --- I have to have some time off, despite expectations to the contrary. I'm sure you like having time off from work as well.
As to your questions...
Yes, a custom chip would be needed. The injectors will require it, the cam requires, as will any other major changes to air flow. Speedometers on your vehicle can't be corrected with a chip, it needs to be done with the gearing in the tranny.
We might be able to do it, depending on the computer code. You'll need to pull the computer box and get the code off the postage stamp sized white sticker on the box. Let me know that code.
