[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-13-03 AT 01:30 AM (EST)]Hmm...
My thoughts are this:
1) How loaded was he - was he totally blitzed or was he just over the limit?
2) If it had of been you or I, nobody would have found out. Me thinks that there are some political motivators at work here.
3) How did the media find out?
4) How did the media aquire the mug shot?
5) I am sure everyone enjoys a drink or two when in tropical climates.
6) He made a mistake in judgement - a human trait.
7) More people will be aware of who he is now - everyone always remembers politicians who make mistakes.
8) I think the media attention he is getting will make him a better politician - he will think twice about doing anything wrong - the pressure will keep him honest, don't you think?
9) I don't condone this type of behaviour, but I think his own mind is punishing him enough at this point, so I don't think he needs to resign.
10) If we all resigned when we made a mistake or did something inappropriate, I don't think anyone would have a job. I think there is a post about Practical Jokes...nuff said.
11) Cut the guy some slack, it will blow over in a couple of weeks anyway.
12) Finally - remember this from the good book - "Judge not lest we be judged"

I can agree with most of what was said above.

What does this mean exactly? I see people using this quote all the time to come to sombody's defence about something. The "Good Book" as you call it, I assume your talking about the Bible. Can you tell me what book, chapter and verse, who said it, to whom He was speaking to and context? I await your reply.

I just want to meet that officer, the one with the stones big enough to give a Premier a sobriety test! In the states it would be, "well you have a nice night, Mr. Governor- need a ride home? Just try to stay on the right side of the road, thank you again, sir!"

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-13-03 AT 07:52 PM (EST)]DailyDriver - leave it with me - I'll have to look it up to see where, to whom and in what context. Not a big Bible person, but it does have some wisdom. Basically it means don't judge other people unless you want to be judged yourself - you can apply it to your life in general, the way you live and the things you do.

1956MarkII - He got busted while in Hawaii. If he'd been at home it most likely would have been covered up.

He admitted to 3 Martini's, a meal, and SOME wine.

13)Over what time span were these drinks?
14)Does it really matter? I think there are worse things in the world right now that deserve our (and the media's) attention at this point in time.

I agree there are a number of issues going on, but yes it does matter. If it was me, I'd have automatically lost my license for a year. As I need that license for work, I'd be unemployed and a twenty-year career would be down the toilet. Why should someone in public office be any less guilty?

My son recently lost his license for two months due to collecting two speeding tickets in a year. If he publically appologises and admits he "made a mistake", should he get it back without any penalty?

Think about it.

Oh, I think he should face the same charges as everyone else, but he wasn't charged in Canada. Even if he was, I think he should face the same consequences - he'd basically just have to be driven to work each day like everyone else or take public transit - it would help him get in touch with the constituants!
All I am saying is that I don't think he needs to resign and that media is making a mountain out of a mole hill.
