If you haven't heard yet, British Columbia's Premier was charged with impaired driving in Napili, Maui yesterday morning after failing a roadside sobriety test.
Some are calling for his resignation, while others are saying he only made a mistake.
In my opinion, those kinds of mistakes kill!
What are your thoughts?
(For our brethren to the South who may not be aware, a Premier in Canada is equivalent to a State Governor.)
nah, don't make him step down. make him do community service, in public, something like picking up trash on the freeway. he made a mistake, for sure, and should have to do something about it.
that'll never happen...

Being from BC I am undecided as to what he should do. I don't agree at all with what he did and if a jail term is in order then he should be kicked out of office but if it is not then why should he leave. I guess we will see what happens but it is sad to see that the head of our Province doesn't know right from wrong when me a 19 year old guy does.
A mistake is one thing, but deadly ones are not a mistake. They are a complete lack of judgement, is that the kind of person you want running a country? I don't think so.
After having a discussion about this with my Mom and Grandpa it seems that the province is in a tough position. Gordon did something very wrong and should be punished for it, but on the other hand he is the only Premier in how many years to seem to be able to do anything positive for BC. So what would you do if your province or state was in this position?
Hawaii will do nothing in the long run. "We" caught our ex-Governor's wife smuggling twenty grand worth of jewels in from the Phillipines and caught Whitney Houston smuggling drugs at the airport. We let them all go. Who says money doesn't buy you justice?

I don't think his future is up to Hawaii. Where he's going to run into trouble is here at home. Depending on where you live, the local polls are showing anywhere from 36-57% in favour of his stepping down to 39-64% saying he should ride it out.
A number of lobby groups including M.A.D.D. are out to get him. I'm just curious as to what FTE members think should be done.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-12-03 AT 10:13 PM (EST)]Don't step down. We all make mistakes. He was on vacation and should have got a cab. Do some community work. Like that L. A. Kings hockey owner in the 80's California who evaded taxes. Don't put him in jail. That man is smart. Make him do something. Put the real criminals in jail not the dad who speeds on a Sunday from the mall with the wife and 2 kids. It's too easy to stick dad with a ticket.
Ok, I'm in Honolulu and the Ol Rich-Boy network is at it already, coming to the Premier's aid. The police now say that while he was all over the road and drunk enough to warrant an arrest on the spot, they can't quite "remember" just what his blood-alcohol content was and they can't seem to find it now. About what I expected.
