Can anybody tell me the difference between these two motors besides torque and horse power. Does one get better gas mileage, more reliable, quieter, etc.? I am trying to make a decision which to go with.
Thanks
Tone
the 6.0 is more powerful and more cutting edge tech. but I feel the 7.3 to be more dependable and my 7.3 got much better fuel mpgs then the 6.0. But some here are getting great mpgs. If you could find a used 2003 7.3 I think you will be happy, but you might want to drive both.
What MPG can I expect on each of these. I am going to buy used and have a chance on getting a 7.3 or 6.0. Also does anyone know the specs on the powerstroke?
Thanks
Tone
My 7.3 av. was 16.4 combined city and hwy. same truck with 6.0 is 9.6 av. but I KNOW THAT FORD IS WORKING ON FUEL MPG FIX FOR THE 6.0. If you get a 6.0 try to get one with 2004 truck and 2004 engine they have less problems with 2004 engine. good luck
Thanks for the replies you guys. I am leaning towards the 6.0 but am a bit squeamish to spend "new truck" money, so was thinking about used vehicles. I have made up my mind that I want a Ford, but can't decide on what engine to look for.
Thanks again,
Tone
Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions, but if your looking at used 6.0 stay away from 6.0's built before June 03. They seem to be the ones with the most problems.
My F250 04/04 beast has been problem free.... 4200 miles and not the first issue. No drips, no romps, no moan/drone... Nothing
Mileage city/highway combine is 15 to 16. No real road trips to date to see if highway mileage will be any better....

Bottom Line is I LOVE THIS TRUCK
Just out of curiosity how do you write a comment like “6.0's built before June 03. They seem to be the ones with the most problems” I am curious how you came to that conclusion.
Hummmm think this site is going to get me fired one of these days. Best do work while at work instead of searching out info here on the 6.0, but if I worked I would stay up to late at night reading all these forums then fill like a beat dog the next day at work....
Think I'll take my chances with being fired and read all the excellent info here....

Well Ford had a problem with injector pump on the pre June 03's. Seems it took out quite a few motors as a result....
mine has a build date 01/03. yes i have had two injectors replaced, and some other issues, but i don't feel like it is a dog. It still way out performs my previous v-10 in pulling and mpg. there are good 03's out there and from what i have been reading my 03 with both oct and dec flash still seems to get better mpg than some of the 04's. 16.8 hand calc. no tow.50/50 mix driving.

I didn't mean to infer the 03's are dogs. I think the original thread indicated it "might" be safer to look for one built after June 03 due to the injector pump issues, not the injectors themselves. I agree there will be good and bad 03's AND 04's. I had a chipped 7.3 prior to this 6.0 and I loved it. So far I love this 6.0 also. I pulled a trailer(car) with a Jeep and a 4-wheeler a couple of hundred miles this past weekend for the first time with the 6.0. It did a great job. This weekend I will pull the 10K 5th wheel and then I can see how it really compares to the 7.3. So far on this 04 with an 8/03 engine I am getting ~19mpg empty (HW) and I got 14 pulling the jeep and stuff with a bunch of wind. I must have looked kind of funny with a FX4 pulling a Wrangler Jeep and a 4-wheeler. I bet they thought I was heading for some serious off-road fun....
