Amp: KENWOOD KAC-8401
There is a "power control terminal" on my amp. instuctions say:
....
"4.) Connect the speaker wires.
5.) Connect the power wire, power control wire and ground
wire following this order."
The "Power control terminal" is said to "Control the unit
ON/OFF."
I was wondering what to connect the "power control wire" to after it is connect to the amp. Is there some way i can install a switch so that i can turn the unit on/ off manuallly?
You should hook it up to key-on power source (turns on when the truck is on)... usually on a HU wiring there is a "Remote Wire" you hook that up to. Be much better than having to flick a switch on and off all the time; lessen the chance of you forgetting it on and returning to a dead truck.
I have an amp in my 99 eb expedition and what I did was ran the wire fromt he back of my head unit (remote turn on), (head unit is an eclipse 8443), to the amp (fosgate 1001bd), then I cut it in the middle and installed an on off switch. So the amp only turns on when the car is on but when the car is on I can still turn it off if I want.
A switch can be found at any radioshack or partsexpress, any electronics store pretty much
Dont' do the switch unless you plan on having a dead battery someday. Hook up to any power source that is controlled by inginition. There are two options on radio, even if a factory setup. Tap into ingnition wire on radio, or remote turn on. Ford did install one on the factory if the radio is not just plain am/fm. It is in the 20 pin connector. color is light greeen with black stripe.
