Question Concrete Pad

If I pour my foundation for a garage now and let it sit for a couple months before I start building (to spread cost out some) do I need to seal it? And if I do will I be able to come back later and add the cmu and not have to worry about the mortar adhearing to the sealer? Thanks.

I worked with a lot of conc. guys and they all seal it as soon as you can walk on it. This also helps in the curing process.

Will I be able to come back later and add the cmu and not have to worry about the mortar adhearing to the sealer? I planned on sealing it after the framing went up with sometype of colored expoxy sealer, just not yet. I'd pefer not to have to add the blocks now and worry about having to put some type of cap on them so they dont fill up with water. Thanks for the reply.

How late is later? You can always use a bonding agent to help the mortor adhere. Check with local bldg insp. they might want rod sticking up a various spots to make sure blocks don't shift on slab. Which is not too cool , and unsafe if you have to wait awhile before continuing.

Later can be up to 4 months, want it done by winter so I don't freeze my butt on anymore. I do have to have threaded rod in slab for blocks, was going to coat them and place blocks around them that wont allow standing water. One of the reasons for holding off is I've got to remove 2-3 trees and since the storm last year the tree removal price gouging theives are still charging an arm, leg and first born to drop them. They're in a tight spot and wouldn't want to do it myself, hitting my house is one thing but neighbors in another.

i assume you are going to pour slab and footing together. you don't have to seal now. the most benefit from cureing and sealers comes in the hot summer when wind and sun dries out the top and cracks it. i would strongly suggest not less than 4000psi mix and our plant charges only a couple dollars on the yard more for 4500psi. well worth the money. also i would go with about a 3% air mix for freeze protection. one more thought your slab will only be as good as your subgrade. if pour is on mud or soft ground the slab will crack as soon as the support goes out from under it.good luck.

DOnt worry about sealing it, till after you put the block on it. Just cover it with plastic for a coupla weeks.
