Gotta love it!! I had a 351C years ago that ran for a year and a half before I pulled it (still running) and it held 3psi at an idle, and about 15psi at 4000rpm. Upon ispection found a main bearing overlapped about 3/8" and never scarred the crank!!
If it isn't knocking, it should run for quite awhile. cuz it's Ford Tough!!
I have a buddy who has sunk (yes water) his new jeep twice, and wrecked the engine because of water... and dodge replaced the motor... twice. I think jeep has qite the thing goin, sure is worth it to wheel your new jeep lol!!!
"Trail Rated" You have to admit thats great marketing. But all in all they aren't bad. My brother's has a 95 Cherokee and he's got well over 150000 and still going strong. Christop43 is correct on the 4.0L FI s the best engine Jeep ever produced.
A truly trail rated jeep is one built from the ground up by someone who knows offroad.
I have a 1980 CJ-7 that is built, not some college prep jeep that daddy bought so he can impress the honey's, but a truly built offroad rig.
For example:
3/4 ton full width axles on 36" mud tires, sprung over suspension lift using YJ springs (softer and wider than cj springs) with a shackle reverse using all greasable bolts and bushings. the front springs are outboard of the frame. It has a full six point roll cage with seats mounted to the cage and a four point racing harness mounted to the cage also. It also has an exoskeleton to protect the bodyand 3/16" 4 "anlge iron rocker skids. It has the 258 inline 6 witha 4spd and a dana 300 trans. 4.10 gears.
New jeeps are marketed as trail rated, mine IS trail rated.
