so i have been thinking about supercharging my bronco. i know the pros but is thre any cons to it. my engine is a 351 w with 92k on it. have never had any problems with it and i dont really want to. but all that power... is anyones bronc supercharged?
super charging is nice thought, but IMOP for the same money your can swap in a new cam, heads, and exhaust, and ignition system and make the same power naturaly asperated , insted of boosted and a motor that alredy has close to 100K on it. just my thoughts. DW
ahhh baby...power power....but DW2455 is right.....but a supercharger will be what 1500?....a super charger would do more than heads, exhaust etc....youd be driving one of the fastest broncos ever made....deffinately
You would be hard pressed to get the same HP gain with other mods as you would with a SuperCharger for the same amount of $$ invested. Superchargers are an incredibe gain, on a fairly fresh engine. A engine in the 90's might start to go downhill fast with one on. You would be smart to stick with a charger like the Kenne Bell if you go with one, you have power off idle with this type. With a centrifical s/c, such as the Vortech or Paxton you have to get you RPM's up before your boost kicks in and when you are at the lower RPM, the S/C is like having your air conditioner on, alot of lag. Well, thats just a few thoughts on them, check out my gallery for my S/C Bronco, it was around 650 RWHP.

$1500.oo ? not even close try $3500.oo
with the setup im talking about you can easily make
400 - 450 HP motor and you can add the components as your budget sees fit. DW
You're right about the price, $2500 - $3000 AT LEAST. But on a stock motor with almost 100k miles not a good idea. Your rings wont last long and you won't get anywhere near the advertized power gains with a stock motor. Heads and stock exhaust are very restrictive, intake is somewhat restrictive. I didn't notice what year you have, do already have MAF? If not you HAVE TO before you can do this. You'd be much better off with a stout rebuild, high flowing heads(keep the intake runners around 170cc to 180cc for low end torque), truck/rv cam, headers and high flowing exhaust and forged or hypereutectic pistons. This will last you a long time and give you alot more power than you have right now and will definitely handle a blower if you want to add one later. Keep the compression kind of low if you're gonna SC it. Don't mean to spoil you're plans, just giving you an honest opinion.
That's sweet. When you had the blower on the stock motor how many miles were on it? And how big of a diff did you see when you put it on the stroker(stupid question)?
hey all... thanks for your input. i was just thinkin about possibilities for some new upgrades. def could afford some more power. lol who couldnt! cant afford a supercharher. had no idea they were that much
buckinbronco....Yeah, superchargers are expensive. If your looking to get some more HP without breaking the bank, start with your exhaust, free flow mufflet, mandrel bent 3" all the out , free flow cat and if funds permit...headers and a Y pipe. Go with a aftermarket intake tube also. Putting a set of electric fans on and pulling the power robbing factory engine fan will gain you close to 20 rwhp, one of your best bangs for the buck actually. Then you can always get into the internals of your engine, but those things are giong to start to add up quickly.
RLKBOB...the stock 351 only had 32 k on it when I put the 6psi Vortech charger on it, it was a significant increase, but still not as much HP as I wanted. Thats when I decided to build the stroker with the larger supercharger. The computer estimates on the 408 running 12 pounds of boost were between 650-700 rwhp, yeehaaaaaa! That was more like it!

you know cobrajrb...thats a really good idea to do some sort of a big block, probably stroker engine and forget about forced induction, serious grunt and HP, I like it!
RLKBOB...check out my Bronco in the gallery, this 408 stroker had it all + 12 lbs of boost on a SuperCarger!
I want to add horsepower to my 1996 bronco here are some of my ideals can you tell me what you think?first i want to start with a mass air 80mm upgrade,24lb injectors,GT 40 intake lighting kit, throttle body from a 93 F150 lighting kit, airforce one cold air intake or k & n high flow air filter(which is better?)vortex valves, not sure which heads to go with I was going to go port & polish stage 3 alumminum heads,a bigger camshaft, steel) shorty heads, bigger hydrallic rollers, comp lifters, maybe even a heat spacer,do i need a stronger torque converter?I going to add a shift kit to it.Thinking of a bigger fuel pump and lines(stainless steel)I want to add sway bars to stop body roll, what do you think i need to do with that type of horsepower?.I like your ideal with the forged bottom end.I'm not ready for the SC yet.gears 3.55,dual exhaust, coilover,I will be done by june 2004.thanks spyty
some engine swaps aren't an option in my state, so check the legality of it (can't swap an engine that wasn't installed in some way from the factory). best bet for power is a mildly stroked (remember rod ratio for durability) 351, MAF or convert to programmable SD, and an excellent-flowing top end. i've been doing a lot of research on this and the most important thing to remember is that you won't get much improvement if the parts don't work together. get a good-sized TB, perhaps the Edelbrock truck intake (for torque), cast iron heads (who needs aluminum in a truck??), a good cam, and a good exhaust, and you're there. trucks are all torque...high-revving horsepower engines are useless in a bronco...unless you're building a mud truck. if you plan on supercharging, build the engine for a blower from the get-go. this is the best advice i've ever heard and seen implemented as far as engine building goes...FORM A PLAN AND STICK TO IT. hope it helps anyone who needs it.
