i just purchased a 1986 ford f150 4x4. I like the truck and all except for the fact that when i put the gas half way down and kick in the injectors it falls flat on it's face, jerks back and forth, and it sounds like there is a back firing noise coming from under the gas pedal underneath the truck. it's makes a real loud pop sound. when i let my foot off the gas to a normal exceleration pressure everything is fine it drives normal.i had the injectors looked at and to new ones installed.i have had a complete tune up. And i have put a new fluel pump and filter on. If anyone could give me any solutions that would be great. also when i start the truck in the morning it makes a weird whisling sound from underneath the truck like it's sucking air in or blowing it out. thanks jay
I think the sound you are hearing like "it's sucking air in or blowing it out" is a clogged catalytic converter.
The sound you are hearing is probably like a screaming banshee. It usually tries to come out on the connection/exhaust seal between exhaust manifold pipe and the exhaust pipe.
If your vehicle has an oxygen sensor, you can buy a backpressure tester. You just take out the oxygen sensor and screw in that backpressure tester and it will tell you if there is a restriction in the exhaust system. I think 3 PSI or above is a sign of a restrictive exhaust system.
I have to second the plugged cat theory I had a plugged one on an old Grand prix once that sounded like a jet taking off was terrible then it caught on fire and melted going down the freeway and well at least no more noise :P
