Terrible design to put a drain location OVER your access point !
but do a search for water separator and you'll find some ingenious ways to get it done...
using gallon plastic bottle and making a cutaway to catch the drainage AND the 6mm plug...
Hello to all - I'm new to the diesel world and discovered this great site AFTER my 02/23/04 purchase (04/03 250 PSD). This is a fantastic resource and my first post. I am curious about several issues regarding the HCFM. First, I located it and drained some fuel after only two weeks....not that I thought it needed it....was just curious. I only drained it for about 5 seconds, or as long as it took me to regain my composure and fish the plug out of my 5 gal pail. I now know this is not long enuf! If I let it drain longer, will it eventually stop flowing at some point? If so, then should I drain the line completely before attempting to change out the filter itself? Seems logical. Most importantly, what on earth do you do with all that diesel fuel you've just drained?? I'd be interested to know what others do with it. Great site and great folks. Glad to be a small part of it!
Welcome !
In MY case... it came out fast at first, but NEVER stopped completely... and straight fuel was coming out...
Now I was nose down in my driveway which may have done it...
but some have stated it stopped draining after a bit...
just like each of us, maybe each truck performs a little differntly ?
haven't drained it since they replaced my water separator about 3 weeks ago...
Had to change the fuel filter on my 2003 6.0diesel last weekend. Fairly easy job, but Ford had a poor design on the filter on the frame. Got diesel fule all over me when i change the lower filter. Fuel seemed to run down the frame while pulling the fuel filter out. Also it is hard to manipulate the filer out.
Still better than paying Ford dealership $177.00 dollars to change the filter out. Bought a wick filter from O'Brien Auto parts for about $75.00. The box contains both filters and the rubber rings.
If anyone has suggestions about not getting diesel all over you, then please reply.
I called around and found a ford dealer that would discount the filters to me $47 for both and then went to Kwiklube and paid $29 to have them installed WHILE I WATCHED ...
I had the top one changed in 2 minutes, but in trying to get to the bottom one, it was angled into the frame rail, had a cross member right in the way and just was going to be a pita...
so I gladly paid the $29...
