Oh yea, dude mine was like that. NOT SEALED. You can definately get a chip. Mine was closed with no screws or tabs. I just got a pair of needle nosed plyers and gently pryed it open. Worked really well too. Trust me, you have nothing to fear on that one. Let me know if you need anything, I did the complete install myself.
Do not post links to other Diablo dealers on this site. We sell Diablo and I don't want the web site used to promote our competition.
What Ford did with some computers is cover up the port with a piece of metal. In most cases you can cut it out and put a chip in. I'm talking about EEC-V computers (1997 - 2003 F-150s use them). The new P-tech/Black Oak processors 2004+ F150 have no port at all.
sorry about the link.
question can i/ or cant i chip my 2004 heritage xl?
Yes, you can chip it. The Heritage is basically an 03 model carried over. As to the governer, we can raise it. One person is fond of saying it wasn't, but it was merely an oversight in that instance (we'll be happy to take care of it if he calls).
yeah it will get chipped, after i/h/e. there is a shop by my house, free dyno
with chip purchase. still working on the necessities right now, it got a tint and alarm this week. line x next check. so it will be a little while.
Well Ken, if the 04's have no port, how do you think Diablo will approach the attempt to create a chip for them. wow, why do you suppose Ford decided to do this? Do you think they're going to make a Ford high performance computer, like Dodge does????
The 04's get programmed with a tuner that plugs into the OBD test socket. The new computer is a relatively high performance system, uses a Power PC processor.
What about auto trans? How well will the chip work for that?
The chip has no effect on the tranny at all, none that I noticed. The Ford auto trans just plain stinks and there's not much you can do about it except intall a Transgo shift kit, which they haven't even finished developing for the 4R70W tranny yet. But, once they do, i'm going to install one.
