Tom's first truck problem, oh no!!!!

Ah, you guys are probably laughing but this is a weird problem.

My truck all of a sudden decided to start shifting it's auto trans whenever it wants to. Yesterday this started to happen. Driving along a flat road at about 35 mph, my tranny just decided it wanted to start shifting down into 2nd, then back to 3rd, then into overdrive, then scream back to second, then to overdrive and back to 3rd, all in about 5 seconds time. When I got to the light and the tranny shifted into neutral, it just decided to upshift and stall the truck. It happened on the highway again today, just shifting at random while driving on a flat road at steady speed.

You think my Diablo chip may be loose or something? What could cause this random tranny freak outs. I mean, what, does my tranny think this is a democracy or something. This is a dictatorship and my tranny should do whatever my truck tells it to

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions??

Love,

Tom

it sounds like your truck is haunted, you may wanna call Ghostbusters....on the real it may be a malfunction in the chip but the shift into neutral isnt normal thats a manual shift from D or R to N unless the electronic shift mechanisim got it stuck between gears and it was a "false neutral" you may want to have the dealer or a mechanic put it on a tranny scope to see. It may be simple but then it may be serious....trannys are like that theres no in between its either total teardown or a loose wire

Well, I just checked the chip and it hasn't backed or fallen out at all. If it keeps up, I'll have to take it to the dealer and have them look at it. I know what they'll say already though. If the problem doesn't happen while they're test driving it, they'll say there's nothing wrong with it. I hate my local dealer.

However, I COULD be a chip malfunction. If the problem gets worse, I'll try turning my chip off and seeing if that fixes the problem.

Just me being an idiot, what do ya think??

Well, 12K miles and having problems already. I'm not happy today. I've owned at least 12 new cars or trucks in my life and never seen problems develope this soon. I hope for Fords sake that it's not serious.

Tom, I doubt the chip would cause that. I'm with Shane...probably just a sensor or something. Fluid won't cause you vehicle to just shift all of a sudden...low or high. If I were you I'd get a systems check by Ford under warantee to see if they can find a faulty sensor or something.

You guys are ALL freakin' wrong, ha!

The Diablo chip came loose from off-roading. Pulled the chip out, soldered the terminals on the computer to obtain a better connection, re-installed the chip. Works perfectly.

Case closed.

It could've been the voltage regulator.
