Hellow people iam a nebee so go easy on me . I have 02 4.2 v6 f150 when i was on the freeway i tried to see what my truck could do but when i got to 95mph it it shut down like i had a govener on it somthing is stoping me why???????? please help.
Yup both a rev limiter, at about 5500 RPMs in all gears, and a govenor between 95 and 98 MPH no matter what gear, so in 4th or 5th you cannot go past 98 without installing a chip, or getting bigger tires and 'tricking' your computer
I have had mine up to 98-99 mph, which is basically the same as your truck. I used to have a 2000 F150 with the 4.2 and I got it to just over a 100 one time, but I was going down a slight hill and the momentum pushed it over a 100.
Like Jimmy Dean mentioned, a chip can take care of the rev limiter so the fuel won't shut off 95-99 mph. Plus it will give a little horsepower gain.
If you plan on driving like that alot or at least until you lose your license, toss a Diablo chip in it. You'll love the low end power it gives you as well.
Yes, Garrett is right. I forgot about that. For some unknown reason, some manual trans computer codes cannot have the top speed limiter raised. It's never actually removed, just raised to a much higher level. Mine was raised to 125mph. I know this because I actually hit it once BEFORE I lifted my truck. Now my SAFE top speed is nothing over 85/90 mph.
And Inda, uh, we don't do spankings around here. But we WILL bust on you should we be given the chance. In fact, Mr. Garrett is the KING of sarcasm so watch out!!
Best thing to do would be to call Ken at Motorhaven and just ask him. give him your 4 letter code and ask him to check it out. He may have programed your computer code many times before and can tell you what effects it would have.
sealed ecu? I've never heard of that. Mine is an 03 and I have a Diablo chip though. What is a sealed ecu?
I found that link so you know i'm not full of crap, read the bottom line on the web page. (i cant validate whether its true or not til i have time to look)
Do not post links to other Diablo dealers on this site. We sell Diablo and I don't want the web site used to promote our competition.
What Ford did with some computers is cover up the port with a piece of metal. In most cases you can cut it out and put a chip in. I'm talking about EEC-V computers (1997 - 2003 F-150s use them). The new P-tech/Black Oak processors 2004+ F150 have no port at all.
