egr valve

i need to know if i have to have the egr valve. i am getting ready to put headers on my truck and need to know if i need that huge metal tube that goes to my egr valve. if so how willl i need to hook the tube up to the new header.

It depends on the emission laws in your state.

i have the same thing on my 79 f250. i just took the tube off and plugged the manifold and egr body with small bung caps off a 55 gal. drum. it works.
