so i have a pair of jba shorty headers that i picked up of of a bronco (90-91) 5.8l. these headers have a tube and a pipe thread coming off of the first tube on the passenger side header for egr recirculation. as far as i know the exhaust ports are identical on 5.0's/5.8's. i welded a cap onto the nut that retains the egr tube to the header. my question is, will this small pocket of tube that doesnt flow anywhere sticking off of the front tube on the passenger side create any problems? is there anything i need to consider before installation.
cool. question: you dont have a 302 that uses that egr configuration (passenger header to intake), do you? i found these on a 5.8l. my egr just goes from somewhere in the lower intake up to the upper plenum where the valve is.
no my 302 headers dont have the egr tube coming out of it like the 5.8 headers do. all 302's had the egr coming out of the lower intake manifold i think.
yeah thats what i thought. so what would you need the headers i have for? you have a 5.8l truck somewhere?
im definitely up for the trade. i think id much rather have a set of headers without superflous tubing protruding from one of the headers. ill try to get pics up of mine soon. maybe tonight.
my bronco has a 351 in it now. the original motor was a 302 and it started knocking so out it came. the swap over to the 351 was easy but i couldnt use the 302 headers because they didnt have that egr tube. i had to work late last night so i will work on getting pics tomorrow.
on a side note i lived in San Jose for about 3 yrs but got laid off from cisco systems and moved back to oregon.
yeah. we make parts for Cisco where i work. i work in a manufacturing shop. www.peridotcorp.com. im at work on break right now and i just took some pics of the headers, ill try to get em up at lunch or after work. do you know what your headers are made of (409 stainless etc). the flow tech headers you have are made by holley right?
yea, i bought them back in march and i dont have the sheet on them anymore. I do know that it has the extra thick flange to help with a good seal and not allow warping. They were painted black by the manufacturer but that soon cooked off. I will be repainting them black with that super high temp paint. just not sure how long that would last either. i wanted to get them ceramic coated but there isnt any local shops that do that were i live, but would suggest that to you if we make the trade . the ceramic coating helps so much with under hood temps and looks hella kewl
i didnt think the ceramic coating made a whole lot of difference in underhood temp but youre the second person ive heard mention it. is it a dramtic difference from uncoated aftermarket headers?
i dont know if the headers i got are just 409 stainless with a nickel finish or if theyre chromed but you wouldnt know by looking at em in their current state (i pulled these off a bronco that was pretty torched). im sure theyd look real nice if someone took the time to clean&polish. like yours, these jba's have a thick flange
i pulled these off a bronco that was pretty torched.
here is a pic of both.
here is a pic of just the one with thegr routing ( the thing to the side is my homemade cap.
on the holley site they list the 5.0 shorties to fit 87-95. your truck is an 88 and mines a 92 so there shouldnt be any problems with fitment.
Thats correct, you should have no fittment problems. I will on getting some pictures tonight for ya, they are still on the motor but are easy to see enough.
looking forward to the pix. im pretty antsy to put on some new headers. i was about to put the ones i got on until i posted and talked to you. i do like the idea of having the right headers.
