I have read a couple of threads on here about removing the door panels on an '04 Expedition but none seem to really give good instructions on how to do it. Has anyone changed the exterior mirrors? I bought the mirrors with the blinking lights for added safety and want to change them but the panel doesn't want to come off. Most of the other threads say to just remove three screws and pop it off but that doesn't work.
To get the door panel off you have to remove the cover around the door handle. I think there is a little notch to pry it off with a screwdriver. Pull up on the plate that the windows and lock switches are in to remove that. Once it's off you can unplug the switches. I think there are 2 screws by the armrest and 2 at the bottom of the door panel. Once the screws are out you lift the panel straight up. Dont try pulling it off or you'll break it, only lift it.
Okay guys, I put in the new mirrors. The mirror controls work and the approach lamp works but the actual blinkers don't work. Is there a special fuse that I need to install in order for the blinking part to work?
It might be possible if not already installed from the factory, the wiring was not put in for this function. i.e. Power third row, trip monitor. I own a 04 XLT and I tried to get these after the fact figuring I'll save because the cost of those options are not added to the loan (interest charges) and found the truck is not pre wired for these things. So buying them as an option the cost to have it put in is way more than it's worth. Only problem I've had with Ford. For future 03/04 owners, get everything you want before you leave the lot.
