OK, I am parting out my 89 bronc, and need the fuel pump out to put into my 91 150...does the tank just 'drop' out after removing the bands on it? And hw hard is it?
Umm, I could be wrong (I don't think I am) but the 89 will have a low pressure in tank pump and a high pressure fuel rail pump. The 91 will have a high pressure in tank pump ONLY. Just a heads up before you get too far into it. I am like 95% sure that's the setup.
Hmmmm Beast.. you mean to tell me that I cannot use the pump out of the 89 and put it in the 91? or I will just have to do more than a direct swap to get it done? better than paying the 160 for a new pump....
My Hanynes manual is at work but I am pretty sure they changed over to one fuel pump in 90 or 91. I will double check. Unless you have a manual then you can check. It's in the fuel pump section.
Hey if you don’t have any problems with modifying. I cut an access panel in the back and that allowed me to access the top of the fuel tank without going through the trouble of dropping the tank. I have had to access the assembly a few times (i.e. fuel pump, gas gauge sending unit, etc…) and this saved me. There is a post somewhere in this forum that gave the directions. (I could not find it though). I used a short bladed saws all, but I am sure there is other ways, as common sense would tell you though; you want to be careful about sparks. Anyway, just a suggestion, it has worked great for me.
Woops,I am an idiot. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that you are parting out the Bronco. Your probably not going to want to go through the trouble of an access panel. Maybe I should pay attention next time.
Well I checked today and I was right. They changed from dual fuel pumps to a single fuel pump in 1990. So I think you would not be able to do it. If you could it would take some extensive modifying I think. Also you don't know how old the used fuel pump is as well. I guess you just have to go get a new one. Or if you don't mind used check out a junk yard. Good luck!
Matt's right. 1990 was the first year for in-tank high pressure pumps. You could still use the '89 pumps, though, but you'd have to take both the low pressure in-tank pump and the high pressure pump out and put them in the '91.
However, the Bronco and the F-150 have different sized fuel tanks, I think. Maybe not, check your owner's manuals. The fuel pumps themselves are made to go down to the bottom of the tank, there are no pick up lines. So it won't work unless you are going between tanks of the exact same shape and size.
