When I put exhaust on my truck the guy at a store who wouldnt sell me anything told me that by cutting off the catilytic converer i would hurt my engine. Is this true or is this guy just giving me BS so i buy some expensive exhuast system from him. I have a 94 f 150 4.9 I6. Also iv heard that a flowmaster 40 muffler sounds good and i was wonder what it sounds like without cats on? thanx
It won't hurt the engine but is certainly illegal and should not be done. We already have enough problems with the government clamping down on emissions, we don't need ya helping that situation out. High flow cats are 60-80 bucks and do not really hurt performance over no cat (certainly over stock), invest in one. It'll make it sound a little better too IMO.
As Justin stated, it will not hurt the engine. It can cause faulty readings by youre sensors, which in turn can make youre engine run less than optimally. That can decrease gas mileage. The high flow cat idea is the best bet. You help keep the air a bit cleaner, as well as keep Mr. EPA happy. Check out http://www.exhaustsoundclips.com/ford.html I know they have some I6 exhaust clips there. Is interior resonance an issue? Flowmasters are one of the worst for this.
I don't really care about interior resonance I just want it to be as loud and sound as good as can be expected for a I6. I looked at summit free flowing cats and there only about 55 dollars. Do u know if they would work the same as some name brand?
Summit does not manufacture any of its products. They do use name brand products, without the badging. One thing to remember about the Summit branded items, they were chosen by price, and not necessarily quality. That is why the Summit stuff is always cheaper. Did you hear any clips you liked on that site I provided? Have you posted in the Inline six forum? The guys there should be able to tell you exactly what you are looking for.
when i went to the site it wouldnt load but ill try it later thanx. I didnt know that about summit and i didnt know they had a seperate I6 forum so thanx.
You cut and pasted the link into youre browser right (everything from http to html)? Yes, many people dont understand how Summit has so many products. I hope the I6 guys can answer you properly.
