I am thinking on swaping in a 5 speed behind my 7.3 diesel. It is a 1991 F250 heavy duty E4OD 4X4. It has 156,000 mile son it. Trans right now has no trouble, but the day may come. So , found a 1988 F250 heavy duty 4x4 being parted out. What can i use of the dead truck. It had a 302 in it. And about 65,000 on it. Pedal unit, cross member, anything else?
Thanks Bob
An 88 302 and a 91 7.3 diesel?
Not much at all I would think.
Not the trans, bell housing, flywheel, clutch, pedal assembly, transfer case adapter, heck, not anything I would think, besides, your has the powertrain control module looking for a signal from the trans, and that's assuming your transfer case "as it is set up for the E4OD and it's adapter" will even fit the new 5 speed and it's transfer case adapter!
They (the E4OD and the ZF 5 speed) might be the same set up (not the adapter, but the length of the shaft), but I dont remember one way or the other, it's been too long.
You need to be looking for a truck that has the same year/style pedal assembly, and all the other parts need to come from another diesel.
But if you are lucky, you might get a lever to work instead of that hydraulic POS like I have, but not for long as I got all the parts to swap it out!
