1998 transfercase

1998 transfercase

I have a 1998 F150 5.4L with the electronic shifting transfer case. When shfting into 4 wheel drive, should it clank or clunk when engaging or should it be smooth and quite? I bought this vehicle not to long ago and new to Fords in general.

Welcome to the site!

Generally, there is some noise when engaging 4WD. A clank or clunk is not unexpected.

There is always a clunk when shifting into low range.. And out.
