towing

Hello I have a 97 f150 with a 4.2, manual trans and its been great so far. I am planning to tow a trailer this summer one that is about 2000 pounds.I will put a proper hitch to make it safe. Any of you guys towed with your trucks and how was it on hills etc. Thanks

You should be fine as long as you don't tow in overdrive up hills and stuff like that. Always keep it in the lower gear.

Your truck will do fine with a 2,000 pound trailer.

I was very surprised with my 4.2. I moved from Central Texas to Colorado Springs, CO and pulled second to largest uhaul trailer packed to the hilt with no problems. Once I got to Colorado I noticed that on the hills it would have to kick down (auto tranny) but other than that it was great. Never pull in O/D and you'll be fine. I drove at 75-80 the whole way (not the safest).

Do you have a tow package? I believe 5500lbs is the max you want to pull according to specs. I would recommend the Class III anyway.

As long as you don't run diesel fuel your fine 2000 pounds, piece of cake.
