Transmission temperature question(s)

My truck (250 V10) did not come with a towing package and I am planning to get a transmission cooler installed in preparation for twoing a 5th-wheel. Is a bigger tranny cooler better or can the fluid be too cool? Also, should I install a temperature gauge and if yes anny recommendations? Can I do this myself or do I have the transmission shop do the job?

Thanks

Any time that you are going to add cooling capacity it is best to go with "worst case" needs. Get the large area cooler. As to the temp guage it is a relatively easy install. A pillar pod is a good mount for the guage. The sensor is usually no problem for the average driveway mechanic. My gallery has this mod in it.

I can't believe that a 250 doesn't come standard with a "towing package". It is a work truck. Even if it says lariet on the side.
