I have a 1988 Ford F150 with the inline 6 cylinder in it. I was wondering if I came off the exhaust with a y pipe to make my single exhaust to duals and put glass pack would it sound as good as regular duals with glass packs? I just sold my 78 F150 with the cherry bomb glass packs and now miss the sound badly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Keith Prather
just from experience and cost, glasspacks dont sound to good on the I6, at idle and a low rpm they do, but once you get in to it, the sound will get high pitch like a honda. Best bet would be to go with something without fiberglass. even though everyone has one, flowmaster seems to produce the best sound on the I6 from what I hear or no muffler at all.
I have dual glasspacks on my 300 and it sounds allright. Mine isn't high pitched at all, but it is very "raspy" at higher RPM's. I can try to get a sound clip if you would like.
I had a cherry bomb on mine temporarily and it sounded terrible and annoying while cruising down the highway, and them went with the round performance dynomax muffler and same deal, it got really annoying going down the highway with the same pitch hum to it. Maybe with true duels or no cats it would sound good.
I just listened to a series 40 flowmaster that she sounds sweet my question is do you have to have duals or just put it in place of the stock pipe?
Keith
Which one will be my best bet though the single series 40 or double. with dual exhaust that is my goal the sweet sound like they have on their web site. Those sound bytes are bad to the bone.
Keith
I would go with one pipe to be truthfull, you gots to remeber its only a I6, its a tractor motor in a sense, i would put it in where the stock muffler used to be, i bet it would sound pretty nice too, theres a kid where i used to work with a glasspack on his straight 6 and i have to agree with most ppl here it sounded bad.
I noticed today that my truck has the sensor on the catalytic converter. Can I take it off or do they have to replace it if you want it removed????? Which way would be the best to go with?
you can buy something to weld to the exhaust pipe so you can screw the o2 senser in and have no worries. you can use the old sesor if you take it out, if you needed to know that too.
