I think I need to adjust my headlights after my lift im constantly getting flashed by oncoming cars. Manual doesnt say just to take to authorized technician. can anybody walk me through it
In order to properly adjust the headlight you need a headlight machine. In Maryland, vehicle inspection stations are required to have an approved machine to perform inspections. I don't know if CA has an inspection program or not, but if you do, there is a place to start. Dealer would be a second choice. I would think a headlight machine would be "required equipment" for them.
Like Yeti said, you have an adjustment for up and down and one for side to side. Not sure how yours is actually set up but most of them anymore are done remotely of the light. ( a cable runs to where you can get to it as opposed to right on the front of the light) They work the same as the old style though. One will run to the side and one to the top of the light (or bottom) If it was mine, I would put it in the street and adjust them down a little. It's a little easier to do it when it is sitting in the street so you can see where they are pointed. ( of course this would have to be done at night, preferably on a "quiet" street)
This is a comprimise thing. Adjust them low enough that you don't get flashed anymore but, keep them up enough to see where you are going.
They are a Torx adjustment. Looking at the headlight there is an inboard and outboard adjuster. The inner one is for height adjustment. Very easy to do. A little turn goes a long way!
A T-20 works on the adjusters. Park your truck about 6 feet from a white wall of garage door and adjust untill they are even and aiming straight. Then back the truck up about 10 feet and fine tune. Hope you get this in time to help.
