I was looking at an F-550 today and noticed that it has a cable going to the brakes that I am missing. There are two cables that are noticeable when you look at the front tire near the shock. What are those cables for? Im thinking ABS. I have the fatter thick cable in place but the other is not there. Do you think the previous owner disconnected something? Ideas?
One's the brake hose and the other goes to the ABS sensor. (On my truck anyway.) You should have 3 if you have ESOF, one for the brake hose, one for ABS, and one vacuum line for the hub.
The ABS won't work. That's strange that the ABS light doesn't come on. Or does it? Is there an empty hole in the steering knuckle? The sensor sort of looks like the crankshaft position sensor. There should be 3, 1 on the left front wheel, 1 on the right front wheel and the VSS on top of the rear diff. If any one goes out, the ABS won't work or won't work correctly and the light will come on.
I looked at my 1999 book and it says 4 wheel ABS was only available on trucks with 10,000lbs GVWR and above. Rear ABS only for under 10,000 GVWR. F250 F350 SRW have RABS while F350 DRW, F450 and F550 have 4 wheel ABS. So that's why the cables are missing and your ABS light is not on.
Thanks for the info - guess a person should consider those things when towing stuff! HAHA - I hadnt put much thought into it. This is my first rig with the power to pull. So can the front ABS be added on?
