I am repairing the clutch on my 94 ranger and I am having trouble reaching the bolts to remove the transmission. Should I loosen the engine mount bolts to allow it to hang down further?
Incase anyone is interested, maybe this will help someone else.
Well, I got the tranny out by removing both inner fenders.
Starting to regret doing this job myself, for the first time.
Like everyone, just trying to save money. Oil all over the driveway....should have put plastic down, then the cardboard.
I will be surprised if I get the transmission back up by myself,
I think it will be a heck of a job !!
The transmission jack I rented will come in very handy for that.
This story is going in the wrong direction. There is an internal needle bearing in the end of the crank shaft that is shot. I can't get the bearing out. Won't go through the things I tried unless someone asks. So now I have to load up the parts I bought and have the truck towed to the shop. All for 1 little bearing. How embarrising!!
I will hold on to the thought that at least I won't have to climb back under the truck again, had enough of that this weekend.
I just hope the shop will be fair and not take advantage of the situation.

my 94 was a *^%*&%& to get back together. Autozone has a bearing puller w/ slide hammer that will get the bearing out. As for getting the tranni out, it isn't really that bad. Let the back of the tranni angle down, and with some luck you will be able to reach the two bolts on the back of the motor...then the bracket below the oil filter, (and above the starter) have to come out. After that you can slide the tranni out. Getting it back in is a completely differant story!!! I use 2 jacks and 4 arms to get mine in place. The pilot bearing is the hardest spot. But once you have that all lined up, the rest is a snap!!!
Pulling out the internal fenders? That sounds *way* to complicated!
